Is Jermaine the one who gets paid to sing at church? I'm still wondering why he gets paid for singing since I think he gets paid for singing at his own church not like going from church to church and having love offering. Very arrogant child. I did like Alex last night.

Most of the guys were much much better last night than they were a week ago. Here’s my opinion of each.

Mike Lynch- "This is a Man's World"
Very good. His vocals were bright and kept my attention. He sang like he believed it.
-------
John Park - "Gravity"
He was so much improved over last week that I wondered if this was the same guy. Maybe he was lip-syncing. LOL!! No, he was quite good.
-------
Casey James - "I Don't Wanna Be"
Nah, not good. His vocals were okay but he just doesn’t hold my attention. He’s like a nice clone of Constantine.
------
Alex Lambert - “Everybody Knows”
My favorite of the night. Last week he was just horrible. Wait…beyond horrible. This week he was really, really good. I love the tone in his voice.
------
Todrick Hall - "What's Love Got to Do With It" by Tina Turner.
He changes up the songs trying to mask the fact that he cannot sing. Just awful. His scams may have fooled and cheated a lot of people but he’s not going to be able to scam his way around his inability to carry a tune.
------
Jermaine Sellers -- "What's Going On"
A church actually pays this man to sing? Why? Not the worst vocals but far from good. His attitude is arrogant.
------
Adam Garcia - “You Give Me Something.”
He was okay but, again, didn’t hold my attention. Boring.
-------
Aaron Kelly - "My Girl"
That would have been a great performance for a high school talent show.
-----
Tim Urban "Come on Get Higher"
He was as bad this week as he was last week. VFTW fans will have had to dial fast to save him.
------
Lee DeWyze -- "Lips of an Angel"
One of the best of the night. I’m just not impressed.

The two I most want to see go home are Todrick Hall and Jermaine Sellers.

I only got the last bit of the show...but the song choices were horrible and the guys didn't have 1 that sounded anything like a winner from what I heard. Sure hope the girl's do better. It's starting to feel like watching is a waste of time.

Bear in mind that it's still early in the competition, and many of these guys had no professional experience. They will get more polished with time. I think the best of the night were Mike Lynch, Casey James, and Lee DeWyze. I thought Adam Garcia was the weakest.

I thought they were much improved from last week, still some pitch problems on several that need to be worked out.

Mike Lynch
I enjoyed this, he took control and really showed he can be a "front man".

John Park
Better than last week, but still boring.
I agree with Simon that "Purple Haze" may be getting him back.

Casey James
Not good, vocals were weak.
I agree he doesn't have the "grit" needed for that type of song, I enjoyed Elliott Yamins' version a lot better.

Alex Lambert
I am really liking this guy!
Love the breathiness of his voice, and am I the only one who sees a resemblance to a young Paul McCartney?

Todrick Hall
He's a dancer, not a singer.
I think the judges are giving mixed messages that are confusing these people though.
One time they say to change it up and make it their own, then the next they are criticizing the change!

Jermaine Sellers
Hmmm, I liked him till he played the "I know God" card.
I would like to hear him just SING though, without all the runs and "whoop ti do's"

Adam Garcia
My favorite but I wasn't impressed with last night.

Aaron Kelly
Cute kid, good vocals but wrong song.
I would like to hear him do a country song, maybe a Keith Urban song?

Tim Urban
Much better than last week, but I don't think he will be good enough to make it to the finals. I see him gone within the next couple of weeks.

Lee DeWyze
I love the group Hinder, but did not like his rendition of this song. I really like the tone of his voice, but don't think this was the right song to showcase it.
He looked uncomfortable, he hitched his pants up twice and the song just fell flat. I do think he will pick it up and will be around for awhile.

I think it will be Jermaine going home this week.
To use Simons' word...sorry.

AMEN!!!! I thought he was mediocre at first, but definitely stood out last night. I'm so still upset that Tim Urban was brought back and not Jermaine P!!!

Jermaine S. really got on my nerves!!!! I actually like his register, but less is more. You don't have to do runs through the whole song!!! I would love him to get Simon to church, but his display of piety was far from the Jesus I know!

I'm not even Christian, and he's far from the Jesus I know. I'm sure it's God's plan for all of our lives to be on a karaoke show to eventually sing songs written by other people and soaking in millions. He's arrogant and full of pride. Very not Christian-like. Even in his interview, he still thought he was the poo. He said, "I take their criticism with a grain of salt." Then later said, "I took in all of their criticism." Make up your mind, junior. Would be very surprised to see him next week. Whether people are Christian or not, they're very turned off by people who think they have a red phone in a glass box that God calls every time He wants a new celebrity.

Personally, it gets on my nerves when the judges get on to the contestants for not singing a 'current song'. I know that's the point of the show to find a pop star, but modern music stinks on ice. I'd much rather hear an 'old song' than the crud that gets put out today, and I'm 31! So bravo to the ones who sing old songs.

Amen to that, Moody!

They (well, Ellen) keeps telling Katie to sing things "more in her age range" when she has a lovely, mature voice. What do they want her to do? Be just another Disney teen queen like Miley, or Demi Lovato, or Selena Gomez???

My faves again this week were Crystal, Lilly, Katie, and also Siobhan. She really surprised me this week! She doesn't look like that kind of voice should come out of her!

Agreed. Crystal, Lilly, and Siobhan blew everyone away. And I do definitely agree with the judges that Siobhan's note at the end was insane and pretty awesome. Agree with Simon as well, Crystal was the star of the night, with Lilly and Siobhan at a very close second. If those three were taken off the show, there is no way I would watch it anymore. The guys don't even come close to those three.

As I see it, the problem with the songs Katie is singing is that they are songs where lyrics depict an older, experienced person giving advice to younger, less experienced people. At 17 and with her looks those lyrics just come out as presumptuous. She does have a mature voice and if she was singing those lyrics on the radio everyone would think she was in her 40's.

My summary will come in a bit.

Crystal Bowersox- "As Long as I See The Light" by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

The best of the night. I am so glad they switched the guys and gals so that she could sing this week. Has anyone ever done a CCR song on AI before? I plan to listen to her performance a few more times before I delete the show off the DVR.
----
Haeley -- "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus.

Better than last week. That’s all I can say.
----
Lacey Brown -- Sixpence none the Richer

I don’t remember her performance. I think I liked it.

-----
Katie Stevens -- "Put Your Records On"

Great voice. She sang the song well. I agree… she needs to pick songs that don’t depict her as an older woman giving advice to young girls.
-----
Didi Benami -- "Lean on Me"

Boring.
-----
Michelle --"With Arms Wide Open"

She was good. But I’m not impressed.
----
Lilly Scott -- "A Change is Gonna Come"

Second best of the night. I really enjoyed her take on the song. I wish she’d get rid of the dead albino look.
------
Katelyn Epperly -- "Scientist"

Yeah….waaaaaaay too sloooow.
-------
Paige Miles -- "Walk Away" by Kelly Clarkson.
Sounded good. Not impressed.
-----
Siobhan Magnus -- "Think" Aretha Franklin.

Too quote Simon, “Weird but I like.” LOL!! She has a lot of lung power. She has the strongest voice of the bunch. It has to be the glass blowing. She’s like a split personality. Her stage personality is completely different than her off-stage persona. Very quirky. I never would have thought that she could pull off Aretha.

The girls did slightly improve. Was impressed with Lilly, Crystal, and Siobhian. I thought Kaityn did a great job on that Coldplay song. The ones in danger tonight are Lacey, Haley, and Didi with Haley and Didi going home. I can only hope that Jermaine will go as well and that is because I know God

'really liked Siobhan last night. She has the stage presence and very comfortable but then when the judges started talking to her...it was a different personality but I still like her and I think she'll have the likeable factor.

I was re-watching the performances I actually liked...Crystal, Lilly, and Siobhan. It kind of made me think. I believe the producers this time around are looking for that singer/songwriter type of girl. And I think they're really going to be shoved down our throats this year, like Adam was last year before going with singer/songwriter Kris Allen...which didn't work out too well. The "indie" girl is a popular fad right now, especially because of film soundtracks. You've got Juno, the Twilight series, and various independent films that are built around their soundtracks. All featuring mostly independent musicians and bands. Which is leading me to think that these aren't technically the "best of the best," but instead what the producers want with a lot of filler in between to cause the votes to lean towards the singer/songwriters like Crystal. It makes sense when you look at the winners in the past.

Kelly Clarkson- pop white female
Rubin- soulful black male
Fantasia- soulful black female
Carrie Underwood- country female
Taylor Hicks- soulful white male
Jordin Sparks- pop black female
David Cook- white rocker (during the time Daughtry was ruling the world)
Kris Allen- white singer/songwriter

It seems the only natural step is to collect a female singer/songwriter to the list of winners. Especially since they missed the boat on Kris Allen, with male singer/songwriters' popularity waning in the past few years...while the VH1 You Oughta Know girls are topping the charts.

I agree. I am giving it a few more weeks but if they don't improve I am not watching either. Even this early in the season there are a few I like and look forward to hearing but not this year. I really thought during the auditions that this was going to be a good year but it has not been so far. It is starting to remind of the year that McPhee (I think that was her name) and Hicks was on. I didn't finish watching that season either. I am so thankful for TiVo. I can fast forward through the performances and I don't think I have listened to one from beginning to end yet.

Here is my take on Idol. I didn't do it for the men, just the women. Net week will do the men too. Here is who I voted for in the men's category: Michael, John Parks, Casey James, Aaron, Tim and Lee Dewze. Out of all of the ones I voted for, John Parks went home tonight. Darn!

Crystal did a gospel spin on Long As I Can See The Light by CCR. It was okay. I wasn't to thrilled with it but everyone else seemed to like it. I don't like the dreads in her hair. It distracts me.

Haley Vaugn did The Climb by Miley Cyrus. I love that song but not the way Haley did it. She was pitchy and off key sometimes. I know it's only their second week performing and I am trying to take that into consideration. She went home tonight.

Lacy Brown was okay. I guess I'm just not impressed with anyone so far.

I loved Katie Stevens! I love her voice and I liked her song. Do they want her to do a Hanna Montana song or Selina Gomez or something from Camp Rock or HSM? I'm trying to think teen here. Hey, how about Jump 5? I voted for Katie.

Didi was off in the beginning of her song. It wasn't that good.

Michelle is doing With Arms Wide Open. I didn't really like it. I kind of like the song but it's not a fave of mine. I didn't like how she did it. What was up with them saying that her outfit was hot and that it could be a Vera Wang? Is this AI or a fashion show? She got voted off even though they loved what she wore. I guess it isn't a fashion show after all! LOL She got voted off.

Lilly did A Change Is Gonna Come. I liked it. It was different. I voted for her.

Katlin did The Scientist by Coldplay. I've never heard the song before but I wasn't to crazy about it.

Paige did Walk Away and I liked her take on the song. I voted for her also.

Chivon did Aretha's Think and I really liked it. Her high notes were really good. Trying to do Aretha is hard because of her voice and most people should not attempt an Aretha song. I'm glad that she did.

Let's hope it gets better next week.

I figured that her outfit was the reason nobody voted for her. To me it looked like a giant diaper with a wedding dress bodice. It was awful.

I wanted Haley to go home, but it broke my heart to hear her try to sing through her tears.
I was surprised that the other girls didn't come up to her for support.

Michelle's outfit made her look like a duck! I couldn't believe they were praising her for it! It would have got her sent home on Project Runway!
